On 10 July 2015 the Official Journal of the European Union ((OJEU) published that the EN 16034 will be a harmonized standard from 1 December 2015.
The EN 16034 for fire resisting doorsets encompasses the following ‘Pedestrian doorsets, industrial, commercial, garage doors and openable windows- Product standard, performance characteristics – Fire resisting and/or smoke control characteristics’.
The journal also states that the co-existence period, where CE Marking of door sets is voluntary, ends on 1 December 2018, which gives manufacturers and exporters etc. 3 years to get the correct paperwork in place.
- September 2016 : CE-marking comes into force – CE-marking becomes possible;
- September 2019 : CE-marking mandatory (end of coexistence).
The CE Marking testing procedure of door sets will include the following essential elements; resistance to fire, smoke control, self-closing, ability to release (an assessment of hold open devices), the durability of self-closing. Other characteristics for fire-rated door sets, such as acoustic performance or thermal performance, will need to be determined by reference to BS EN 14351-1 for external door sets or pr EN 14351-2 for internal door sets.
