Mandatory from July 2013: The Construction Products Regulation
Still working with Construction Products Directive 89/106/EC (CPD)? Please take notice of the new Construction Products Regulation 305/2011/EU (CPR), which is already in force and will be mandatory from July 2013.
What is the purpose of this new regulation?
As well as the Construction Products Directive, the Construction Products Regulation is laying down harmonized conditions for the marketing of construction products. As part of the Better Regulation initiative*, the Construction Products Regulation provides better and more clarification of both the concepts and use of CE-marking; it introduces simplified procedures, which will reduce time and costs incurred by enterprises of all sort of scales.
By imposing revised, new and stricter designation criteria to bodies involved in the assessment and the verification of construction products, including Certification Experts B.V., the Construction Products Regulation is also increasing the credibility and reliability of the system as a whole.
The free movement of designers, creators, civil engineers and construction services is now facilitated after the publication and EU-wide implementation of common European technical standards for structural design: the Eurocodes (European technical standards)
Furthermore, supporting activities in the field of improving the competitiveness of the sector, specific policies, background research and technical assessment methods are increasing the environment in which all companies in this sector must follow the same rules and are given an equal ability to compete.
*Better Regulation means, in simple terms, modernizing EU legislation; simpler, fewer and better rules.
