Complete CE certification of personal protective equipment
CE Certification PPE
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must comply with European Directive 89/686/EEA. The directive encompasses product safety requirements to protect the health and safety of users.
Every product that is designed to be worn or held for protection against risks must meet the requirements specified in the directive. It makes no difference whether the product protects against one or more than one risk, or whether these risks are health or safety risks.
The regulations also apply to each system that consists of personal protective equipment used in conjunction with another external product.
CE-marking for PPE mandatory
The directive is intended for manufacturers of personal protective equipment who wish to offer their product in Europe. If the product complies with the essential requirements specified in the directive, the CE-marking may be affixed. Personal protective equipment without the CE-marking may not be sold in the EU.
Manufacturers must ensure their products are designed in compliance with the relevant European standards and that a conformity procedure has been carried out. This is set out in European standards or international ISO criteria. Or, the product must comply with the technical requirements as imposed by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) in order to meet the basic requirements of the directive.
The obligations relate to quality and performance of (the use of) a product. We would be happy to advise you on the directives with which your product needs to comply and to carry out the certification process for you.
