The Blue guide is an implementation document of directives based on the New Approach and the Global Approach. The first edition of the “Blue Guide” in 2000 has grown to become one of the main reference documents for a better understanding of EU product rules by the New Legislative Framework.
The blue guide is addressed to Member States and other involved parties who need to be informed about product rules to ensure free movement of products and a high safety level of protection throughout the Union. The initiative to update the Blue guide comes from the European commission who’s objective is to ensure that only safe and compliant products are to be sold on the EEA market in order to protect EU consumers and professional users.
The guide discusses non-food and non-agricultural products referred to as so called industrial products or consumer products. It explains the different elements of the New Legislative Framework and aims to contribute to a better overall understanding of the system so that legislation is implemented properly.
Some of the 29 legislation’s (directives) this guides relates to are;
- Toys’ safety (Directive 2009/48/EC)
- Electrical equipment designed for use within certain voltage limits (Directive 2006/95/EC)
- Machinery (Directive 2006/42/EC)
- Medical devices (Directive 93/42/EEC)
- Pressure equipment (Directive 97/23/EC)
