What is a CE mark?
CE is the French abbreviation for Conformité Européenne (European Conformity) and with the CE mark on products or packaging, you as the manufacturer declare that your product meets all legal safety requirements regarding health and environment. Obtaining the CE mark allows your product to be sold within the European Economic Area (EEA). Having your product CE approved is mandatory for all manufacturers whose products fall under the relevant CE directives and regulations and for importers who offer a product under their own name. This is because they are considered the legal manufacturer and therefore bear the same responsibilities as the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). The importer is therefore responsible for affixing the CE marking to their products.
Advantages of CE marking products
Although CE marking is mandatory, you also benefit from CE marking products. The purpose of marking is to ensure the safety of the end user. By obtaining the marking, you contribute to a safe and transparent market for both manufacturer/importer and consumer. It also obliges all traders to meet the same requirements, creating a level playing field.
However, obtaining the marking is an intensive process, and so you can benefit from having CE marked products when you have this done by a third party such as Certification Experts. With us as a full-service compliance partner, you enjoy several advantages:
- We can achieve CE Marking in just 5 steps
- Outsourcing the process to our experts gives you accelerated access to the EU market

How do I get CE marking?
In most cases, self-certification is possible: you can carry out the entire CE marking process yourself. This involves compiling a technical file, performing risk analysis and testing, and ensuring that the correct information and warnings are provided, including the CE marking and Declaration of Conformity (DoC). The specific process is thereby based on the product group your product falls within. For high-risk products, you will need to carry out a conformity procedure with an accredited third party. For both regular products and high-risk products, Certification Expert can guide the certification process for you.
