Is it necessary for the packaging to possess CE certification as well?
The CE marking is primarily associated with the conformity of the product itself, not its packaging.
However, there are some cases where the packaging may need to comply with certain regulations, but this typically depends on the nature of the product, the specific directives or regulations that apply, and the role of the packaging in ensuring product safety and compliance. For instance, if the packaging is an integral part of the product’s safety, it may need to meet specific requirements.
The packaging of products that are placed on the market within the European Union (EU)/European Economic Area (EEA) must meet the requirements stated in the Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive 94/62/EC. The Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive specifically addresses packaging and packaging waste, focusing on environmental and waste management aspects. It does not pertain to the CE marking requirements.
Please contact us if you want to consult the relevant EU directives or regulations that apply to your specific product category to determine whether there are any specific requirements for packaging.
